JPW were the urban designers and landscape architects completing the detailed design, documentation and supervision of the Olympic Boulevard and associated Olympic plazas, with concept design by George Hargraves and Associates.
Our work ranged in scale from the expansive 11 hectare Olympic Plaza, considered to be one of the largest paved spaces in the world, to the fine detail of footbridges and street furniture.
We developed in conjunction with Rocla the special porous pavers used in the Olympic Boulevard which is now part of their standard range.
Rapid design and fabrication techniques had to be developed for the tennis centre link bridges across Haslam Creek in order to meet the tight Olympic dateline. Ninety mature figs trees were transported by barge, 1000 kilometres down the Australian coast from Queensland to form the landscaped green spine of the Olympic Boulevard.
