Opened in 1962, the ‘AMP Building’ was Sydney’s first high-rise office tower and double the height of all other buildings in Sydney at the time.

JPW’s revitalisation of 33 Alfred includes: all office floors recalibrated for the workplace of the future; a re-activated public lobby and retail levels engaging with Scout Place and Goldsbrough Lane; new state-of-the-art End-of-Trip facilities; a reinvented sky terrace and complete facade renewal to improve views, comfort and energy use while preserving the landmark’s iconic character.

Our renewal has lifted 33 Alfred office space from B-grade to Premium and it is now 90% leased with tenants including four of the city’s top legal practices and an international investment bank.

“Sydney’s first skyscraper is getting a makeover! Construction accounts for 20% of Australia’s carbon footprint so I’m thrilled to see sustainability front and centre. I look forward to its new, refurbished form!”

Clover Moore
Independent Lord Mayor of Sydney

8% of annual global carbon emissions are from the production of steel and cement for the construction industry. We must do more with less. Adaptive reuse and renewals such as 33 Alfred are central to the success of the circular economy.

In addition to services upgrades to meet market expectations, refitting the 60-year-old building presented a unique set of technical requirements including NCC upgrades for structural, fire safety, amenity including acoustic separation, energy use and accessibility.

JPW in collaboration with the client, City of Sydney, heritage, planners and facade engineers, developed a customised curtain wall including innovative gold glass and monolithic end walls in a unitised system faced with hand-glazed engineered ceramic tiles.

This work will make 33 Alfred Street one of Sydney’s most highly sought-after premium-grade office buildings.
