Cowper Street Housing, Glebe has received Commendations in Residential Architecture – Multiple Housing and Sustainable Architecture at the 2026 NSW Architecture Awards

Designed for Homes NSW and The King’s Trust Australia, the project delivers 75 new social homes, increasing the site’s previous social housing provision by almost 300 per cent while responding carefully to the heritage character of Glebe.

Comprising two eight-storey residential buildings and a three-storey terrace building, the project demonstrates how greater density can be introduced thoughtfully through design excellence within an established inner-city neighbourhood without compromising amenity, accessibility or community connection.

Sustainability was central to the design from the outset. JPW’s Design Competition winning scheme and our fully documented tender design integrated brick and cross-laminated timber construction, natural ventilation, rooftop gardens, solar PV, generous communal open space and thoughtful landscaping to create durable, fully electric and high-quality homes that exceed conventional housing benchmarks.

Delivered by Kane Constructions, the project reflects a shared commitment to delivering high-quality, sustainable social housing outcomes.

Congratulations to Homes NSW, The King’s Trust Australia, Kane Constructions and the broader project team on this recognition.

JPW acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of Country and honours their continuing connection to lands, waters, skies, and communities.

We offer our respect to Elders past and those present – as the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we work.
